Tasmania
Our Forest Estates are located on State Forest land across the north of Tasmania. Under the Forest Management Act 2013, members of the public may visit our forests, but to help keep you safe, we recommend that you contact our Launceston Office. We can provide advice on what operations are in progress in the areas you wish to visit, the possibility of heavy vehicles sharing those roads, general road conditions and any locked gates.
To ensure the health and safety of all users, please refer to the following Timberlands Pacific Conditions of entry for community use before entering our forests.
Scamander Forest Information
Timberlands Pacific Pty Ltd is the local property manager of the Scamander Forest. We have a long history of consultation with stakeholders in the local community.
We have worked closely with the North East Bioregional Network for over ten years to undertake and support restoration work across the native forest areas of Scamander Forest Estate, providing funding and other resources to undertake programs such as weed control and pine wildling removal, to improve biodiversity outcomes. Timberlands Pacific expects to continue to work with and support the North East Bioregional Network through the Skyline Project, with 85% of the Scamander Forest to be returned to native forest.
The Skyline Project includes the regeneration of 1,700 hectares of former softwood plantation back to native forest. This native forest will support flora and fauna conservation, provide recreational opportunities for the community, act as a long-term store for carbon and assist in improving the visual landscape of the Skyline Tier.
With the planned re-establishment of the 300 hectares of radiata pine plantations, we will be incorporating enhanced protection measures in response to community requests including:
• Doubling the width of streamside reserve exclusion zones and buffers to provide substantial wildlife corridors and greater protection of waterways.
• Mechanical weed control, no chemical herbicides will be applied.
• Radiata and native seedlings to be protected by biodegradable netting.
• An Independent expert has been consulted to ensure threatened species and any other special values are identified and are then protected.
In addition, our programs will continue to support the recreational use of the Scamander Forest and work with Sustainable Timber Tasmania to manage the risk of wildfire.
At harvest, the resources available from the replanted radiata plantations will be available to supply local sawmills, timber preservation plants, and other facilities that may develop during the growing of the timber.

Additional Information
Organised Events | To ensure your safety, and as organised events may impact on other forest users and local infrastructure, you need to seek permission to hold an organised event. Examples of organised events may include conducting a research project, mountain bike or motorbike events, car rallies, horse riding or cross country, orienteering and other ‘on foot’ events.
Before providing permission, Timberlands Pacific needs to make sure that the event is not planned near an active forest operation and will not affect any special values that may occur in the proposed activity area.
Please contact the Launceston Office at least one month prior so all the appropriate authorisations are in place and we have made you aware of the relevant forest hazards and impacts that may affect participants.
No Hunting is Permitted | No hunting is permitted, even if permits are obtained externally. Recreational hunting impacts on year-round game control programs and does not help to reduce wallaby or possum numbers in a meaningful way.
Firewood | No firewood collection is permitted within the Taswood Estate.
Neighbours
Timberlands Pacific is responsible for the day-to-day tending and maintenance of the Taswood Estate, including boundary weed control and fencing.
